Magnolia obovata (White)
Description: Vigorous large deciduous tree with handsome obovate leaves. Flowers are creamy-white with crimson stamens, very fragrant. Fruit is cone-like and bright red.
History: Originating from the Kuril Islands and Japanese Islands
Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.
