Trazels are so called from corruption of tree hazels and are a hybrid cross between the common hazel C. avellane and the Turkish hazel C. colurna. They have both fruiting and ornamental features with good edible nuts along with the highly ornamental envelopes, frilled in appearance. The trees are vigorous and upright.
