Hazel, Cobnuts, Walnuts and Chestnuts
Commercial nut growing is increasing in popularity particularly as a good way to diversify farms and driven by an increase in Agroforestry projects. The health benefits of nuts are widely known and they are easy to grow.
Cobs and Hazels
We offer suitable varieties for UK growing. Hazel and cobnuts have shallow roots and can thrive on a large rang of soils as long as they are well drained. Cobnuts can be picked green in late summer or left on the tree into autumn and dried. We also offer the Italian confectionary nut which is rounder and blanches easily.
Squirrels can be a nuisance but in a large plantation they will not have such a big impact.
Multiple varieties are required for pollination.
Varieties include Corabel, EMOA 1, Gunslebert, Halls Giant, Lang Tidling Zeller, Tonda di Giffonia, Clark, Long d’espagne, Cosford, Webbs Prize Cobb and Nottingham.

Walnuts
The good fruiting forms of walnut have been selected over considerable time and include many from other countries. Most varieties are generally large, thin shelled and of excellent eating quality.
Chestnuts
There are several named varieties of sweet chestnut, selected for the large size and superior quality of their nuts, among which we consider those listed below to be suitable for the UK, certainly in southern areas. They are generally early to harvest and should have some disease tolerance for our changeable climate. Fruiting should begin within two-four years of planting.
We are in the process of building up our own UK propagated Chestnuts.
Varieties include:
Belle Epine, Royal, Marron de Lyon, Marsol, Marlac, Marigoule, Maraval
