Bare root trees being lifted

Share this:

From late October when trees fall dormant and lose their leaves we start lifting them from the ground.

The field crew work with a special tree lifting machine that carefully lifts the trees and loosens the roots from the soil. Trees are then bundled into specific grades and loaded onto a trailer to be heeled into sawdust to protect the roots from frost or drying out.

Over 10,000 trees can be lifted in a day in good conditions, too much rain can slow the process down.

Lifted trees are either for onward sale or are potted to be sold as container grown trees the following autumn.
