Under the management of Frank P Matthews, the arboretum will continue to be planted with new varieties and provide an excellent source of propagation material for ongoing production. Existing customers of Cherry Tree will be fully supported with the supply of trees for retail.

John Ravenscroft has made a huge contribution to the horticultural industry as a plantsman and pioneer in nursery production and retailing. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to carry on his good work and to safeguard and develop British tree production for the future.

The acquisition will add several hundred additional varieties of trees to the company’s range, all of which will have been tested for hardiness and suitability for UK gardens. The collection includes around 300 Magnolias plus unusual varieties of Acers, Betula, Cornus, Euonymus, Prunus and Sorbus.

“Growing plants of all kinds has been a great passion of mine for nearly 70 years,” explains John Ravenscroft. “We are delighted to now hand over the business of Cherry Tree over to Frank P Matthews who are best suited to continue all the work we have done.”

The arboretum is currently private and access to all propagation material is only for Frank P Matthews.
