Description: An elegant medium to large tree with branches and new shoots. Broad finely toothed leaves are dark-green above and silvery white beneath. Produces sweetly-scented white flowers in mid-summer which are attractive to insects, though, happily, these are aphid free and do not cause “honeydew.

History: Native to Central China. Discovered by Augustine Henry in 1888 and introduced in 1900 by Ernest Wilson.

Tilia Growing Tips: Grows readily on light or heavy soils and will put up with temporarily soaking ground. Avoid growing in very dry conditions or exposure to very strong winds.
