A tree that has been grown in the field and then lifted out of the ground when dormant. Available from November to March. The roots are more open and the direct contact with the soil encourages them to settle in and establish more readily.
These are 2yr old trees that have been grown 1yr in the field and the second in a pot. Container trees can be planted at any time of the year but establish best when planted during the autumn and need to be watered well during the first summer.
Thorn
Glossy, dark green foliage. Profuse, small, fuchsia pink in May. Small red fruit.
A small American thorn with large white flowers and persistant red fruits in winter. Overall height 16ft.
Common Hawthorn
Perfect hedging plant due to its thorny stems. Glossy green foliage turns bronze and yellow in autumn.
Glastonbury Thorn
Produces leaves earlier than normal and occasionally can flower twice. Height after 10 years 6m.
Grey flaking bark. Deeply cut leaves, grey-green downy beneath. Clusters of single white flowers.
Handsome, small tree with rich brown bark. White flowers give way to large persistent orange-red fruits.
A rare medium-sized tree with prolific white blossom in spring followed by yellow haws. Practically thornless.
