Bare Root Tree Lifting 2022 11/11/2022 Many of the bare root trees we grow are lifted in the winter when they are dormant. Each row is carefully lifted from under the roots by a lifting machine which is pulled along by the tractor. The trees are then bundled together, labelled and taken to be heeled into the beds or put into coldstore. This protects the roots from freezing or drying out so they can be stored safely until they are ready to be sold or potted. Our tree bay can hold over 250,000 bare root trees. The ditcher digs a trench across the sawdust and woodchip mix so the trees can be placed into the ditches. The roots are then covered back over with sawdust mix.
