Acer x conspicuum 'Phoenix'

Description: Acer x conspicuum 'Phoenix' is one of the most colourful and brightest Snakebark Maples. An improved form of Acer pensylvanicum ‘Erythrocladum’ with darker, coral-red winter shoots striped silvery-white and striated bark. Large green leaves turn a golden-yellow in autumn and small yellow-green flowers appear in spring. A small tree that's quite slow to grow in it's early years. The perfect choice if you're looking for autumn colour and attractive winter bark.

History: Developed in 1892 from a seedling of Acer x conspicuum ‘Silver Vein’.

Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
