Magnolia denudata ‘Yellow River’ (Cream Yellow) Magnolia

Magnolia

Magnolia denudata

Description: A small to medium sized tree with a fairly tight, upright, crown when it is young that broadens with age. Upright goblet-shaped, buttery-yellow flowers are borne on the bare branches in mid-late spring with a wonderful citrus like fragrance. The blooms fade to creamy-white over time while keeping their rich butter-yellow colouration at the base. The bright green foliage that follows, turns a lemony yellow before falling in the autumn time.

History: A new variety from China, also know as 'Fei Huang'.

Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.
