Populus x jackii 'Aurea'
Description: Large, broad-headed tree. Pointed, variegated, glossy, heart-shaped leaves with a pleasing balsam-like scent, they emerge mid-green with cream margins and pink and cream speckles. If left unpruned the leaves are significantly less variegated.
History: Introduced by a nursery in Truro in 1920, originally came from a garden in North Devon.
Populus Growing Tips: Grow in moist but well-drained, humus-rich, fertile soils but avoid planting in vicinity of buildings due to vigorous root system. Annual hard pruning recommended.
