A tree that has been grown in the field and then lifted out of the ground when dormant. Available from November to March. The roots are more open and the direct contact with the soil encourages them to settle in and establish more readily.
These are 2yr old trees that have been grown 1yr in the field and the second in a pot. Container trees can be planted at any time of the year but establish best when planted during the autumn and need to be watered well during the first summer.
Apple Cider
Mild bittersharp cider apple. This is a 17th century variety producing a very sharp juice which is dry.
Traditional bittersweet apple making one of the best quality ciders, can be biennial. Attractive shiny red apples.
Golden flushed with crimson flecks and pale lenticels. Juice has robust astringency, sweet and low acid.
Greenish-yellow turning yellow. Sharp, fruity and firm. A charming lawn free with drooping habit.
Large, green/yellow with freckled russet. Produces a light, fruit cider. Can be eaten fresh with a sweet, tangy taste.
Well flavoured bittersharp, compact growth habit. Yellow-green background with a strong dark red flush.
Deep red fruit produces sweet astringent juice, high in tannin. Full bitter sweet cider. Crops well, can be biennial.
Pale yellow fruits with bright red flush and stripes. Juice is low acid and sweet, slightly astringent. Heavy cropping.
The fruit is green, turning slightly yellow when ripe.Touch of red if sunny. It makes a light sweet cider.
Mild bittersweet cider apple. Compact tree with a drooping habit. Fruit is greenish/yellow with a light pink flush.
Sweet cider, greenish yellow with a bright red flush. Produces a pleasant juice, good on it’s own.
Sweet low acid cider apple. Upright, tip bearing tree. Fruit is yellow, smooth and waxy, makes a lovely fruity cider.
