A tree that has been grown in the field and then lifted out of the ground when dormant. Available from November to March. The roots are more open and the direct contact with the soil encourages them to settle in and establish more readily.
These are 2yr old trees that have been grown 1yr in the field and the second in a pot. Container trees can be planted at any time of the year but establish best when planted during the autumn and need to be watered well during the first summer.
The Heptacodium miconioides, commonly known as the seven-son flower, is a unique and elegant small tree or large shrub that offers multi-season interest. Native to China and belonging to the Caprifoliaceae family, this rare and ornamental plant is a gem for gardens looking for year-round beauty and ecological value.
The Heptacodium is best known for its clusters of fragrant, creamy-white flowers that bloom in late summer to early autumn, a time when many other plants have finished flowering. These blossoms attract a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, making it a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. Following the flowers, the plant produces vibrant, cherry-red calyces, which add a splash of late-season color and persist well into autumn.
In winter, the peeling, tan-colored bark of the Heptacodium reveals a stunning layered texture, adding visual interest when the tree is bare. Its upright, vase-like shape and glossy, deep-green leaves make it an attractive focal point throughout the growing season.
Heptacodium thrives in well-drained soil and tolerates full sun to partial shade. It is hardy, low-maintenance, and adaptable to various garden settings, whether used as a specimen plant, part of a mixed border, or incorporated into naturalistic landscapes.
With its rare beauty and year-round appeal, the Heptacodium is a perfect choice for gardeners seeking something unusual yet easy to care for
