A Pillar of Horticultural Expertise

Nick has played a pivotal role in the continued success and development of Frank P Matthews, one of the UK’s leading fruit tree nurseries. Throughout his career, he has championed innovation, quality and collaboration, working closely with growers, nurseries and industry organisations to support the advancement of commercial fruit production across the UK.

Beyond cultivating exceptional fruit trees, Nick is widely respected for his generosity in sharing knowledge, supporting growers and fostering strong relationships across the horticultural community. His expertise in propagation and the introduction of new fruit varieties has helped shape the industry and support future generations of fruit growers.

A Meaningful Tribute

Upon receiving the award, Nick shared his gratitude:

“I am overwhelmed, what a wonderful surprise to be recognised and to be surrounded by all my good friends that I have made over so many years at the Show… This one is particularly meaningful because I had the privilege of working with Jon Jones before he died. Jon was a great supporter of the industry and of young people. When we met, he gave Frank P Matthews an opportunity to work on new trial varieties, which helped kick-start research work that continues today.”

2026 National Fruit Show

The 2026 National Fruit Show took place at the Kent Showground, Detling on Tuesday 4th November. As the UK’s key meeting place for the British fruit sector, it brought the industry together to connect, collaborate, and innovate.

A busy show and a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with customers, partners and growers from across the industry, while also meeting many new faces. This year was particularly special as we marked 35 years since we first exhibited at the Show. It was also a pleasure to share our stand with our Dutch friends, Botden & Van Willegen. Our British hazelnuts drew a lot of interest, and it was fantastic to share our Oregon State University varieties alongside traditional English cobnuts and filberts with so many passionate growers.
