Description: Franquette is a superb late season quality nut which is large, oval shaped with a flat base, pointed top and thin, strong well-sealed shell. Good kernel colour and flavour that's suitable for all purposes. The tree itself is a very strong grower but late into leaf so avoiding frosts. The nuts can be picked, dried and stored once they're fully ripe or harvested when they're green during the summer for pickling. Reliable and heavy cropper that's resistant to blight and codling moth.

Walnut Growing Tips: Prefer to be planted in full sun or light shade with a sheltered position with no frost pockets. Will tolerate many soil types but are happier in light, sandy, well-drained soils. Walnuts are difficult to establish in the first year of planting and some die-back in the shoot tips is expected. For pickling, the nuts are best picked in July before the shells are formed. Test with a pin or skewer! Rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids.
