Magnolia 'Brozzoni' (White/Pink)

Magnolia x soulangeana

Description: 'Brozzonii' is a large spreading deciduous shrub flowering before the ovate, green leaves open. The flowers are white with a slight pink flush near the base, and have a graceful poise on the sweeping branches. Candle shaped to start with, opening to a large cup and saucer shape. A great asset is that it flowers two weeks later than other soulangeana, so often escapes the spring frosts.

History: 'Brozzoni' is a second generation seedling raised in the garden of Camillo Brozzoni at Brescia, Italy in 1873. Received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 1993.

Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.

Height and Spread (after 10 years): 4m x 3m
