Magnolia 'Atlas' (Light Pink)
'Mark Jury' x M. x soulangeana ‘Lennei Alba’
Description: 'Atlas' is a vigorous, broad-spreading, small-medium, deciduous tree with mid-green leaves. The flowers are incredibly large, at about 36cm wide. The colour is lilac pink on the outside and nearly white inside with burgundy red centre with stamens, produced freely from an early age.
History: Raised by the Jury family in New Zealand, and introduced to Britain in the 1980’s. Cross between Mark Jury and M. x soulangeana ‘Lennei Alba’
Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.
