Magnolia ‘Aurora’ (Light Pink) Magnolia

Magnolia

M. 'Star Wars' x M sargentiana var. robusta.

Description: 'Aurora' forms a columnar tree with an upright habit and settles down to flower in the second or third year from planting. Leaves are deciduous, narrowly obovate, mid green. Produces quite large, typically 'cup'n'saucer' shaped, rose pink flowers, deeper on the outside in April.

History: Bred by Os Blumhardt, in Whangarei, New Zealand, and is considered his best hybrid. It is a cross between magnolia 'Star Wars' and magnolia sargentiana var. robusta.

Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.
