Description: P. heldreichii is a narrowly conical evergreen tree with dense, bright deep green needles in pairs. The oval cones emerge blue in the first year, ripening to pale brown. The thick, mature bark is grey-brown and deeply grooved revealing the light brown-yellow bast.
History: Introduced in 1864 from Italy and the Balkan Peninsula. Species name honours Greek botanist Theodor von Heldreich (1822-1902).
