A tree that has been grown in the field and then lifted out of the ground when dormant. Available from November to March. The roots are more open and the direct contact with the soil encourages them to settle in and establish more readily.
These are 2yr old trees that have been grown 1yr in the field and the second in a pot. Container trees can be planted at any time of the year but establish best when planted during the autumn and need to be watered well during the first summer.
The Laburnum, commonly known as the golden chain tree, is a graceful deciduous tree famed for its spectacular cascades of golden-yellow, pea-like flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer. Native to southern Europe, this tree belongs to the Fabaceae family and is celebrated for its dramatic and ornamental appearance, often serving as a focal point in gardens and landscapes.
Laburnum trees, such as Laburnum x watereri ‘Vossii’, are prized for their long, pendulous flower clusters that can reach up to 50cm (20 inches) in length, creating a stunning waterfall effect when in full bloom. These flowers are lightly fragrant and highly attractive to pollinators such as bees. The tree’s bright green foliage provides a lovely contrast to the golden blossoms, and its smooth, olive-green bark adds interest even in winter.
This fast-growing tree thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun to light shade, making it an excellent choice for small to medium-sized gardens. Laburnum is often used to create breathtaking archways or planted as a standalone specimen for dramatic effect.
It’s important to note that all parts of the Laburnum tree, particularly the seeds, are highly toxic if ingested, so care should be taken when planting in gardens frequented by children or pets.
With its elegance, easy maintenance, and stunning seasonal display, the Laburnum tree is a show-stopping addition to any garden.
