After the first 2,450 Bramley trees were planted, the last row of 50 were handed to members of the public and others to be planted in a special ceremony.

Matthew planted tree number 38 in the row! Starkey’s Fruit at Norwood Park is based at Southwell, the home of the original Bramley apple tree, and they are one of the largest commercial growers of Bramleys in the UK.

Fruit growing began at Norwood Park 100 years ago in 1910 when John R. Starkey MP planted a Bramley Apple orchard. 50 years ago Starkey’s started to grow strawberries and recently blackberries. The current owner Sir John Starkey is a third generation fruit grower and has planted the Centenary Bramley orchard in honour of his grandfather.
