Cotinus coggygria 'Royal Purple'
Description: A bushy large deciduous shrub with soft deep maroon/reddish purple round leaves. The leaves appear almost translucent on a sunny day, and change to marvellous copper tones by the autumn. In July and August, it is festooned with fluffy plumes of purplish-pink flowers that look like a haze of smoke.
History: Received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
Cotinus Growing Tips: Best planted in full sun or partial shade position with moist but well-drained chalk, clay, sand or loam soil.
