Description: Merchant is one of the best early to ripen varieties. A sweet cherry producing good yields of large black fruits that have excellent flavour; best when eaten fresh. Clusters of beautiful white flowers in spring. Some resistance to canker and fruit splitting.

History: Developed at the John Innes Centre, Norwich, UK circa 1970. Received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1995.
