Description: Sanguine de Savoie is one of the most delicious peaches in the world but unfortunately hasn't gained much popularity in its time. The name translated means 'Blood of Savoy'. Red skinned with deep red flesh that's juicy, incredibly sweet and slightly spicy in flavour. A reliable and heavy cropper. Beautiful light pink blossom arrives in the spring. Mostly found growing in vineyards of the Haute Savoie region of France.
Peach Growing Tips: Suited to well-drained and moderately fertile soils in a full sun position. Fan training on a sheltered wall (except north facing) is recommended to avoid leaf curl. Picking times relate to growing under glass, therefore if planting outside at least two weeks need to be added. Early flowering outside makes these trees prone to frost damage. Fruit is best picked when still firm to final ripening indoors.
Peaches are recommended to be grown under cover as they are susceptible to peach leaf curl in the UK. The best way to avoid this is to cover during bud break from January through to May.
