Magnolia sieboldii 'Colossus' (White)
M. sieboldii ‘Genesis’ (tetraploid) x M. sieboldii (diploid)
Description: Vigorous, summer flowering form with large leaves and large, thick-petalled, fragrant, white flowers that gently nod so that you can see the contrasting reddish stamens within.
History: Bred by August Kehr. Received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 2012.
Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.
