Acer palmatum ‘Butterfly’ Acer palmatum

Acer palmatum

Description: Acer palmatum 'Butterfly' is a very spectacular variety of medium-size, bushy-headed which creates an upright habit. They produce rather small, noticeable light pink-tinged markings in the spring which turn into a greyish-green deeply cut, variegated leaf. Sometimes an entire leaf can be cream coloured, but most often this colour appears on the edges of the leaves. In autumn, striking reddish-orange lend an entirely new quality to the appearance. One of the most reliable and desirable cultivars of the variegated group.

History: Raised in Japan in 1938.

Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
