Acer palmatum ‘Butterfly’ Japanese Maple

Description: Acer palmatum ‘Butterfly' is a very spectacular variety of medium size, bushy-headed which creates an upright habit. They produce rather small, noticeable light pink tinged markings in the spring which turn into a greyish green deeply cut, variegated leaf. Sometimes an entire leaf can be cream coloured, but most often this colour appears on the edges of the leaves. In autumn, striking reddish orange lend an entirely new quality to the appearance. One of the most reliable and desirable cultivars of the variegated group.

History: Raised in Japan in 1938.

Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
