Acer palmatum ‘Inaba Shidare’ Acer palmatum

Acer palmatum

Description: Acer palmatum 'Inaba Shidare' is an outstanding dissectum which differs from others with it's type of deep colour and individual leaf shape. The large, red stalked leaves are deeply divided into finely pointed, deep purplish lobes and retain their colour all season. Their autumn colour turns to stunning crimson. The name 'Inaba Shidare' translates to 'Cascading Ricelike Leaf', which is how the Japanese describe the tree's shape.

History: Introduced in Japan in mid-1800s.

Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
