Acer palmatum ‘Orange Dream’ Acer palmatum

Acer palmatum

Description: Acer palmatum 'Orange Dream' is a lovely slow-growing cultivar, similar to Acer palmatum ‘Katsura’ with an upright and bushy habit. Selected for it's refreshing spring-coloured foliage. It's seven lobed young leaves emerge fresh orange, quickly becoming a lemon-yellow colour with orange-tinged margins and tips. The leaves retain their colour until they change yellowish-green in the summer, often still with red tints edging the leaves. The autumn colours are bright yellow-gold turning crimson.

History: Introduced by Fratelli Gilardelli Nursery, near Milan, Italy in 1990. Received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
