Acer palmatum ‘Moonfire’ Japanese Maple

Description: Acer palmatum 'Moonfire' is an excellent, upright, compact tree becoming bushy with age. Leaves emerge dark reddish-purple which last well throughout the summer. They give a translucent affect as they tend to glow when the sun lights them from behind. Later, the foliage turns crimson for a delightful autumn display. Very similar to 'Bloodgood' but more suitable for smaller gardens or growing in a large container.

History: Selected from seedling by Richard P. Wolff of Red Maple Nursery, Media, Pennsylvania.

Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
