Description: 'Cherokee Chief' is a large shrub or small, deciduous tree. The spring foliage emerges in bronze and copper tones, turning green in the summer and then red-purple in the autumn. The flower bracts are large and a stunning deep rose-red in late spring. A fantastic small tree worthy of a place in any garden. Great for attracting birds and insects to the garden.
History: An American selection, introduced in 1958.
Cornus Growing Tips: Thrives in fertile, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil. Unsuitable for shallow, chalky soils. Slow growing.
