A tree that has been grown in the field and then lifted out of the ground when dormant. Available from November to March. The roots are more open and the direct contact with the soil encourages them to settle in and establish more readily.
These are 2yr old trees that have been grown 1yr in the field and the second in a pot. Container trees can be planted at any time of the year but establish best when planted during the autumn and need to be watered well during the first summer.

Some apricot trees are perfect for patio growing or limited spaces, with a maximum height of 2m so can be grown in any sized garden. They can also be trained as a fan against a wall. High-Quality Apricot Trees from Frank P Matthews Frank P Matthews has been growing exceptional fruit trees for generations, offering a trusted selection of apricot trees suited to UK conditions. These naturally vigorous trees produce medium sized fruits with orange flesh, a good flavour and the delicious delicate flavours apricots are known for. Many modern varieties perform well even in cooler climates, providing heavy crops of juicy fruits during late July, mid July, early August and through to late August depending on the type chosen. Whether grown as a patio tree, a free standing tree or fan trained against a south or west facing wall, new apricot trees adapt well when planted into fertile, well drained soil enriched with organic matter. Their early spring or late winter pink blossom is a real highlight, attracting pollinating insects and adding colour to the garden long before many other stone fruits come into flower. Planting and Caring for Your Apricot Tree Newly planted trees will benefit from a sheltered location with full sun to encourage ripe, sweet, home grown apricots and to protect the flowers from spring frosts. Regular watering is essential during dry spells, especially for container-grown or patio apricot trees, to support healthy growth and ensure a good crop year after year. Annual pruning in summer helps maintain a good shape and reduces the risk of issues such as bacterial canker, while hand pollinate techniques can be helpful if growing apricots in a greenhouse or in areas where pollinating insects are less active. Our bare root trees and container-grown options offer flexibility for any garden, whether you want to try new apricot trees alongside peaches and other varieties or simply enjoy the satisfaction of picking fruit eaten straight from your own tree. With the right care, apricot trees thrive in the UK climate and remain one of the most rewarding stone fruits for enthusiastic gardeners.
