Last week Nick Dunn took part in a planting ceremony at The Museum of Cider in Hereford. Nick planted a Bramley Seedling Apple tree as part of a nationwide initiative by the Mother Bramley Apple Legacy Fund.

The Mother Bramley Apple Legacy was started by artist Dan Llywelyn Hall with Celia Steven, who is great-granddaughter of Henry Merryweather, the fruit breeder who originally spotted the extraordinary potential of the Bramley’s Seedling apple tree in Southwell Nottinghamshire. Henry was responsible for propagating and marketing the Bramley from the mid nineteenth century, lauding it as “The King of all Apples”.

The Museum of Cider has been chosen as one of the planting sites due to our involvement in the Apples & People exhibition programme, which features a story about the Bramley’s Seedling.

The Museum is by far the largest museum focused on cider, orchards and apples anywhere in the world.
