Cornus kousa chinensis


Description: Chinensis is an elegant tree, very often a show stopper when in its prime. Spectacular white bracts fading pink over a considerable period from June into early July, followed by strawberry like fruits. Leaves are dark green and slightly curved, with blue-green underside. The autumn colouring has yellow and scarlet-red hues. 

History: Received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, one of the best forms is to be seen at RHS Wisley now named C. kousa var.chinensis ‘Wisley Queen’.

Cornus Growing Tips: Thrives in fertile, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil. Unsuitable for shallow, chalky soils.
