Acer grosseri var. hersii

Maple

Description: Acer grosseri var. hersii is an excellent snake bark maple with wonderful green striped white marbled bark. The lobed, dark green foliage turns into excellent tints of red and orange in the autumn and form an attractive canopy throughout the year. Conspicuous fruits borne on long racemes after the stunning, drooping green flowers appear in the spring. Although it can be fast growing in it's younger years, it tends to slow with maturity. A fine tree with plenty of seasonal interest.

History: Developed in China and introduced in 1921.

Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.

Height and Spread (after 10 years) : 4m x 3m
