Acer platanoides ‘Drummondii’ Maple Back To List Description: Acer platanoides 'Drummondii' is a very popular striking, medium sized garden tree with globe headed green variegated leaves and a striking white marginal band. The foliage turns yellowish orange in the autumn, making it a fantastic seasonal garden tree. In the spring before the leaves emerge, the tree provides attractive yellow flowers. The occasional branch can revert to plain green leaves and should be pruned out. An excellent foil for purple and gold leaved shrubs. History: Introduced in 1903. Received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1956. Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
