Betula ermanii 'Polar Bear'

Birch

Description: Betula ermanii 'Polar Bear' is a very strong growing tree that quickly develops a pure white trunk. After some years and with a little imagination this tree starts to resemble the polar bear of it's name with it's typical heavy branch structure. The dark green leaves emerge alongside the long, yellowish-brown catkins. An attractive golden autumn colour compliments the white exfoliating bark making it the perfect all year round tree.

Betula Growing Tips: They will succeed on most soils with certain species happy even in wet sites. Although tolerant of chalk soils they will not reach a maximum size in these conditions. Best planted in a full sun position.

Height and Spread (after 10 years) : 12m x 8m
