Holstein Apple

Description: Holstein is a distinctly heavy, triploid late-keeping apple. Intense rich, aromatic flavour. Orange red flush, red stripes over gold, russet dots. Some patches, veins. Medium-large sized with a flat base and slightly lobsided, sometimes 5 crowned. Stalk short and thick, cavity medium. Prone to frost damage. Like excellent Ribston Pippin in taste and large Cox in appearance. Stronger, sharper than Cox; more coarsely textured.

History: Discovered and raised in Germany in 1918 by Vahldik, a teacher in Eutin, Holstein.
