Liquidambar styraciflua 'Stared'
Sweet Gum
Description: Large tree with a narrow pyramidal crown, densely branching, even when mature, the grey bark has shallow grooves. Deeply cut, star-shaped leaves are glossy green in summer, transforming to vivid red and scarlet in autumn for a magnificent display. Insignificant purple-red flowers are followed by spiky fruit capsules for further interest.
Liquidambar Growing Tips: Liquidambar should be planted in full sun to achieve their best colour, in neutral to acid soil that is moist but well-drained. Once the trees mature, they tolerate occasional drought as well as periodic flooding. Protect from frost when young.
Height and Spread (after 20 years): 8m x 4m
