Acer x conspicuum ‘Phoenix’ Maple

Description: Acer x conspicuum 'Phoenix' is one of the most colourful and brightest Snakebark Maples. An improved form of Acer pensylvanicum ‘Erythrocladum’ with darker, coral red winter shoots striped silvery white and striated bark. Large green leaves turn a golden-yellow in autumn and small yellow-green flowers appear in spring. A small tree that's quite slow to grow in its early years. The perfect choice if you're looking for autumn colour and attractive winter bark.

History: Developed in 1892 from a seedling of Acer x conspicuum ‘Silver Vein’.

Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
