Celebrate Scottish heritage with our Scottish Apple Tree Collection. This selection features four traditional varieties, each rooted in Scotland’s rich apple-growing history. Ideal for any garden, they’ll bring vibrant blooms in spring and a bountiful harvest in autumn.

Apple Bloody Ploughman: An old variety from Carse of Gowrie. Fruit is blood red in appearance with knobbly skin and stained pink flesh when fully ripe. Juicy, light and sweet in flavour with a crisp texture. Beautiful light pink blossom in the spring. A hardy tree that performs very well in colder areas of the UK and is disease resistant. Good for fresh eating and for cooking. Pick in mid-September.
Apple Coul Blush: An early dual-purpose apple. Fruit is delicately flushed over a golden colour, with sweet, soft cream flesh that’s lightly flavoured. Can be used as a cooker if used early, cooks to a brisk, lemon froth. Raised at Coul House, Ross-shire and known as an endangered variety. Pick in mid-September.
Apple Galloway Pippin: A dual-purpose apple with a large, yellow russet freckle finish. Deliciously sharp when eaten fresh and keeps its shape well when cooked but is best eaten before Christmas. Flesh is creamy white, firm juicy and crisp with a rich, sharp, slightly perfumed flavour. Originated in Wigtown, Galloway. Pick in mid-September.
Apple James Grieve: Excellent refreshing flavour and a reliable cropper. Red flush stripes over pale green with a creamy white, juicy, rather soft flesh. Can be used for eating, juicing and cooking, keeps its shape when cooked. Raised by James Grieve in Edinburgh, Scotland. Pick in mid-September
The trees included in the Scottish Apple Collection are bare root one year old maidens on semi-dwarf to semi-vigorous rootstock. Their eventual height can reach 3-4m depending on soil conditions and climate. As a bare root tree they will be despatched between November and March when they are dormant and will need pruning to the shape you require when planting. For information on how to prune click here.
