Shortlisted for Plant of the Year 2025 at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Frank P Matthews Trees together with Plant Heritage, are proud to announce that the striking ornamental tree Prunus ‘Crystal Falls’ ® has been shortlisted for the coveted ‘Plant of the Year 2025’ award at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

This outstanding new variety is the very first weeping, winter flowering ornamental cherry. Combining an elegant, steeply weeping form with pure white, dainty, densely double winter flowers, this new variety is a great addition to gardens for winter interest. Flowering can often be up to 2 months from mid-December through to February and even later in cold winters. With a compact habit and great garden performance, Prunus ‘Crystal Falls’® meets growing demand for low-maintenance, high-impact trees suited to smaller outdoor spaces.

Selected from a dedicated Prunus breeding programme in the UK by breeder Dr Kenneth Tobutt. From the same breeding program as Prunus ‘Starlight‘ (winner of the RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year 2024), with parentage of Prunus x subhirtella ‘Autumnalis Rosea’.
