Frank P Matthews Trees Celebrates RHS Gold Medal and Best in Show at Malvern Autumn Show 2025

As a leading British tree nursery, Frank P Matthews Trees is celebrating a landmark achievement at Malvern Autumn Show 2025. Having been awarded its sixth RHS Gold Medal, along with the coveted title of Best in Show, for a spectacular display that wowed both judges and visitors over the weekend.

The award-winning exhibit, displayed in the Orchard and Hopyard Pavilion, featured a vibrant and expertly curated collection of more than 300 different varieties of apple. The display spanned everything from rare heritage apples to the most modern cultivars. Alongside pears, quinces, sorbus berries, crab apples and a stunning selection of trained fruit trees.

“This was one of our most ambitious displays to date.” said Steph Dunn James, of Frank P Matthews Trees. “It represents not only the beauty and diversity of the fruit world, but also the hard work and passion of our entire team. To receive another RHS Gold Medal is already a great honour but to be named Best in Show as well is truly special.”

The exhibit stood out for its celebration of autumnal colour, biodiversity and heritage. Shining a spotlight on the importance of preserving traditional varieties while also embracing innovation in fruit growing.

The team at Frank P Matthews Trees, based in Tenbury Wells, are now preparing to take the display to the Tenbury Applefest on Saturday 4th October. Where it will form a central attraction at the popular celebration of the town’s rich apple-growing history.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing this display back to our local community,” added Steph. “Tenbury has such a strong connection with apples, and we hope the display will inspire gardeners of all levels to explore the wonderful world of fruit trees.”

After this the display will then be located at Frank P Matthews Tree Shop until mid-October.
