Cornish Gilliflower Apple

Apple

Description: Cornish Gilliflower is a high-quality dessert apple, primarily a garden variety.  Dark red flush with red stripes over gold. Knobbly exterior conceals yellow perfumed flesh. In late October it is intensely flavoured, rich and aromatic. 'Gilliflower' is the old English name for the carnation which, with this apple, shares the scent of cloves.

History: Found in a cottage garden near Truro, Cornwall, England and was introduced by Sir Christopher Hawkins in 1813. Very popular in the Victorian era and quickly developed a reputation for being one of the highest quality apples.
