Fagus sylvatica ‘Black Swan’ Fagus

Fagus

Description: Fagus sylvatica 'Black Swan' boasts dark purple, almost black, foliage, darker than other varieties of Purple Beech tree and has a magnificent cascading habit. The deciduous, broadly ovate, very glossy leaves turn coppery orange in autumn. They hold its rich colour only in full sun. Leaves on shaded parts of the tree will quickly change to dark green foliage. Like all Fagus, a free draining loaming soil gives best results and the domed architectural shape of this tree at maturity is great tree to see in a garden.

Fagus Growing Tips: They will grow in most soils provided they are not waterlogged, and will tolerate most sites except coastal. They prefer full sun or partial shade.
