Corylus maximus 'Purpurea'
Description: Corylys Purpurea, also known as Purple-leaf Filbert, is a large vigorous shrub to small tree with heart shaped foliage that is rich chocolaty-purple in spring, fading slightly to a dark green/purple in late summer. Yellow-tinged, reddish-purple, male catkins hang below the bare branches in late winter. A very productive cropper and its big, tasty nuts have a pretty, wine-purple tinge inside them. Contrasts well with Corylus avellana ‘Aurea’. Received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
Corylus Growing Tips: Will grow well in most soils, preferring a moist, well-drained site. For the best foliage colour, plant in full sun.
