Description: Egremont Russet is a good quality, mid-season apple. It's the most important commercial russet in the UK at this present time and can be found in mostly any supermarket. The flesh is cream, tinged yellow, sweet and firm with a distinctive rich, nutty flavour. It's skin is greenish-yellow, then golden flushed orange-red with large pale lenticels.
History: It's origins are obscure, but said to be from the estate of Lord Egremont in Petworth in Sussex, UK. Scott's of Merriott, Somerset first recorded it in 1872 and it was presented at the National Apple Congress in 1883.
