Pear (Pyrus) Catillac

Description: Catillac is probably the best of the cooking varieties. Produces a heavy crop of large, full green fruit changing to greenish-yellow. Some fruits develop an attractive red flush and slight russet. Only suitable for slow poaching or cooking, and turns pink in the process, but also a good exhibition pear for its even round shape and general good looks. The tree itself has vigorous spreading growth.

History: Found in the Gironde, France in 1665. Recieved an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
