Parentage: Beurré Superfin x Williams’ Bon Chrétien
Description: Beth is an excellent garden variety known as the 'star of the pear world'. The fruits are too small for growers to plant on a commercial scale but a reliable and heavy cropper, perfect for the English garden. Pale green, turning to pale yellow, slightly flushed pink. Small clean fruits with smooth skin and a sweet, juicy white flesh that has a melting texture. The tree itself is neat and compact in habit, has beautiful clusters of white flowers in the spring and dark green leaves. Suitable for the smaller space.
History: Raised by H.M Tydeman at East Malling Research Station in Kent in 1938. Introduced in 1969 and named in 1974. Recieved an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
